Home / In memorium / Henry Cooper 1
Henry Cooper The left eye is either damaged beyond repair & may well need removing: infection may have tracked down into his mouth as he is having trouble eating on that side & drooling so nerves may be affected in his face. Might be a tooth that abscessed upwards, or chlamydia infection in the eye out of control or even a tumor. Not pulling him about to look will ask our vet to sedate him so we can make a proper diagnosis. He was a darling we were able to treat him for parasites, Tobrex & Diclofenac eye drops for infection & pain into both eyes before he clearly had enough! Did not attempt to wash his face as he is in extreme pain so we left him in a quarantine pen & gave him vitamin paste/supplement feed mixed with a painkiller quite strong like human Brufen he looks much better & a bit sleepy bless him. If we can save his sight in one eye he can live on to fight another day but it is going to cost if he needs a operation Comments Add a comment cats pyjamas on 2012-Jul-13 09:47:02 cats pyjamas said The left eye is either damaged beyond repair & may well need removing: infection may have tracked down into his mouth as he is having trouble eating on that side & drooling so nerves may be affected in his face. If we can save his sight in one eye he can live on to fight another day but it is going to cost if he needs a operation Henry in the vets this morning many thanks to those of you who have contributed People are kindly asking how he is so for those of you interested who can take it the summary is below. What we did this morning: Sedated him, examined him, injected fluids under his skin to rehydrate him Cleaned his eye wound (needs operating on if he survives) Gave him an intra muscular injection of antibiotics Placed a urinary catheter in his bladder & stitched it in place to drain off the urine but the urine was frank blood clotting up which stopped him peeing, currently resolved & draining Took bloods for kidney/liver function see if he is anaemic from blood loss & look for signs of infection or other problems Placed him in a cage on a warming blanket while we wait for the results of the bloods. Possible causes: The bloody urine may be a completely separate issue from the eye they are worried he has been poisoned or it could be his kidneys have packed up & he is in organ failure The eye is destroyed if he survives they will go in & clean it out/sew it up & explore his mouth to make sure nothing like a tumour exists He may have meningitis from the eye infection Prognosis Not looking good sadly but the vet did not want to give up on him yet if he has a chance so we decided to see how he responds to fluids/warmth/pain relief & antibiotics then make a decision on what his blood tests show later this evening. — at Animals Corner, Chania, Crete Comments Add a comment cats pyjamas on 2012-Mar-08 11:28:24 cats pyjamas said A very big thank you to all who gave HenryCooper a chance of life. Due to cost we do not routinely test our rescue cats as FIV/FeLVblood tests costs €30 but your donations enabled us to take the slim chance he might survive if not infected with either of these diseases. Sadly he tested FIV positive & as his disease was so advanced to prevent any further suffering the poor boy was given a painless & dignified death.
